My Ticket to Knowledge

I love utilizing my local library. It is the reason I completed my reading goals this year. I take each due date as a challenge to return my books on time.
I recently saw a TikTok on how Los Angeles has issued limited edition Hello Kitty themed library cards, and it got me thinking. Would themed library cards drive more people to read?
I actually have a themed library card, but it just so happened that I got my library card when they were promoting limited edition cards. I didn’t ask for it, but it does feel special. I wouldn’t replace it with a regular one!
I wondered if a design would get me to stand in line for a new card design. So I designed my own!
The theme of my library card is: “My ticket to knowledge!”
I love the Amtrak, I love travel, and I love the idea that books can take you on a new adventure!
Additionally, on a deeper level, I am concerned by the censorship that libraries and schools have been experiencing across the nation. Everyone should have access to books, all books! Knowledge, creativity, and imagination is power and that shouldn’t be taken away.
Each design illustrates a ticket in a different scene– as if each time you take out a book you go to a new world. Imagining new worlds would get more folks interested in reading, get more people to their libraries, and give a little more hope that reading is power.
